Fab-u-lous!

Went to see a preview of "Dreamgirls" last night.  Wonderful!  Jennifer Hudson is everything the critics are raving about. She lights up the screen everytime she's on the screen. Her voice persona and presence is huge.  She is simply Fab-u-lous.  You could hear the buzz in the audiece the moment she sings the words "And I Am Telling You..."  She damn well better get a Best Supporting Actress nod.  I actually think she is the lead in the movie.  When she is not on screen, the intensity level drops. 

Eddie Murphy is also a pleasent surprise.  He is definitely a contender for Best Supporting Actor. 

Beyonce is not the strongest character in the film but she is gorgeous on the big screen. Hair, Make-up, Wardrobe?  Flawless.

Jaime Foxx was good, but everytime they have a close-up on his face, I can't help think of his Wanda character on "In Living Color".  "Heeeey".

I am definitely going to see this movie again when it opens in Mount Vernon.

The Pirate Movie

I recently bought one of 1982's biggest flops.  "The Pirate Movie" starring the tour de force duo of Kristi McNichol & Christoper Atkins. I've been waiting for this movie to be released on DVD since...well, since I first saw the film and rented the movie on VHS many moons ago!

This movie is one of those movies where it is so bad, it's good.  Classic.  Right up there with the Village People's "Can't Stop The Music."

The movie was loosely based on Gilbert &Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance"  and updated as a modern day musical...well modern as of 1982!

Over-acting, painfully bad dialog, silly sexual innuendo, horrible music (including updating the lyrics to the G&S songs) and Cheesy costumes (they even got Christopher Atkins to wear his Blue Lagoon thong-thing) make this movie a must have!

There is even a sequence where they throw in animated fish, a scene where they pay homage to Star Wars (Use the force, lightsabres) and a character that is a copy of Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau complete with clouseau mistaken dialoge.  Wow, this movie has it all.  if you want to see Chris Atkins shirtless in many scenes, this is the movie to watch...well, after you see all of him in "the Blue Lagoon"!

It's in Widescreen format and come with an audio commentary from director Ken Annakin (which is now funny because of his name and  the Star Wars scene) and DVD producer Perry Martin.

If you like musicals, yes, his is still considered a musical  then run out & add this one to your collection.

Oscar results

No real surprises tonight. It was a LONG show and I actually only caught about half of it. You can't beat Billy Crystal on hosting the Oscars.

LOTR romped to victory in every category it was nominated in and maybe even some that it wasn't nominated in! Sean Penn, Charlize Theron, Tim Robbins and Renee Zellweger won as expected.

I wished "A Kiss At The End of the Rainbow" from A Mighty Wind won best song. Eugene Levy & Catherine O'Hara sang the song and in character as Mitch & Mickey. They even included "the kiss". Funny movie. I wonder if the academy realized that this song was supposed to be a parody?

Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson were hilarious with Ben dressed up in his "Starsky" wardrobe and Owen in a tux.

The LOTR hobbits sitting together in front of Peter Jackson. Note, Elijah & Dominic sitting next to each other yet again.

Charlize looking beautiful, Renee looking gorgeous, and Catherine Zeta-Jones looking sexy as hell.

Johnny Depp finally cleaned up & looked decent.

And an interesting note. One of the films nominated for best live action short . "Most (The Bridge) was written and produced by William Zabka. As in, William Zabka, the king of the a-holes in the 80's teen films. He was Rick Tolan in "Just One of the Guys", Johnny from "The Karate Kid" and Chas from "Back To School". He was always the blonde, buff punk...but hot! in these movies. I always wondered what happened to him.

Now on to the real show. Fashion Police tonight on E!

2004 Oscars!

The 2004 Oscars are tonight. I have no Oscar parties to attend. No red carpet. Nothing. I guess my tux will remain in the closet :(.

I may watch some of the show, but probably not all of it. I'm more curious to see what everyone's wearing, who's with who, who says what on stage, and if there are any catfights. You know, the good stuff. I guess I have to wait until Joan & Melissa's show to catch the stuff I want to see!

Even though I have not seen many movies this year, except fot LOTR, here are my blind predictions:
